JAMMU: A 25-year-old man transporting a milch cow and two calves in a pick-up truck from Jammu went missing after jumping into a rivulet in J&K’s Ramban district to escape from miscreants chasing him on Sunday, sparking protests leading to the arrest of four accused on Monday.Police have formed an SIT to probe the disappearance of Tanveer Ahmad Chopan even as NDRF and SDRF, along with locals, continued searching for him.A large number of locals, including women, protested on Jammu–Srinagar NH-44 near Ramban’s Makerkoot on Monday morning. The blockade lasted for four hours till Ramban deputy commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan and SSP Arun Gupta rushed to the spot and pacified the protesters, promising a swift and transparent investigation into the matter.The authorities have shut down internet services across Ramban district to curb the spread of rumours.“The circumstances under which Chopan jumped into the stream will be thoroughly examined… Four accused Surjeet Singh, Sandeep Singh, Digvijay Singh, and Keval Singh have been arrested so far,” Banhal SDPO and SIT chief, Surinder Singh Biloria, told reporters.
