Carrie Bickmore, one of Australia’s most recognisable media personalities and a familiar face from her years on television and radio, has revealed she needs plastic surgery following a painful head injury sustained at home. The 45-year-old media personality described the incident as looking like a “crime scene” and has since been dealing with a slow and painful recovery.Taking to Instagram on Monday, April 20, Bickmore shared that she had “blood spurting” from her forehead after walking into the corner of a wall. “Looked like a crime scene,” she wrote, adding that she had “got it glued back together” so she could go on holiday with her family the following day.
How Carrie Bickmore sustained the injury
During Monday’s episode of her radio show ‘Carrie and Tommy’, Bickmore explained that she had “misjudged” the corner of a wall in her home while walking in the middle of the night. “I walked into it with such force that as I fell, I collected a lamp with me that was on the bedside table,” she said. “I was catching it with my hand and it dripped all down my eye.”She was unable to wash her hair or swim for 10 days and believes the wound “popped open” during her subsequent trip to Sri Lanka, where she was photographed posing cheekily on the beach with the injury covered by a medical dressing.
Why Carrie Bickmore now needs plastic surgery
Back on Instagram, Bickmore revealed the situation had taken a turn for the worse. “Healing terribly. And hurting. Also randomly had a lady drop her carry on suitcase on my head. God it hurt. Now gotta have it fixed properly by a plastics surgeon,” she wrote. She later found out she had “hit a nerve” and is now in pain. According to Bickmore, a plastic surgeon told her they needed to remove the glue from the wound before sewing together the nerve and layers of skin. “It was so deep that the glue has done absolutely nothing,” she said.Despite the ordeal, Bickmore kept her sense of humour intact, quipping on Instagram, “Scars are hot yeh? Face for radio, except tonight when I am back on TV for Celebrity Intervention on Channel 7!” Her post attracted over 500 comments, with many of her 794,000 followers wishing her a speedy recovery.
