TIRUPATI: Police opened fire when the 19-year-old accused in the murder of a minor girl at Khazipet allegedly tried to flee while he was being shifted on Saturday morning.Khazipet police, who arrested A Venkatesh – who entered the girl’s house on Friday when she was alone and slit her throat – kept him in the lock up at Mydukur police station overnight. Police said he was placed under custody at Mydukur police station and not at Khazipet owing to protests by the family of the victim and locals, demanding that he be handed over to them.As there was a possibility of an attack by relatives and locals on Mydukur police station as well, police decided to shift Venkatesh to another police station on Saturday morning. When Khazipet police, led by CI S Vamsidhar, zeroed in on Venkatesh near Basapuram checkpost, he attacked them with a rod and injured two constables, Narasumhulu and Sivaiah.Accused, cops shifted to RIMS Khazipet police inspector warned the accused to surrender but he continued to display aggressive behaviour. Vamsidhar fired a warning shot in the air, but even then there was no change in Venkatesh’s behaviour and he continued to advance towards the police. Left with no option, Vamsidhar fired two rounds on Venkatesh below his knees and brought the situation under control,” Kadapa SP Shelke Nachiket Vishwanath said.
