Months after Dell Technologies founder and CEO Michael Dell and his wife Susan donated $6.25 billion to seed “Trump accounts” for children, the company has secured a massive $9.7 billion contract with the US Department of Defense to provide enterprise software to the military. Dell CEO Michael Dell and his wife Susan Dell committed a fund of $6.5 billion to ‘Trump Accounts’ for children in the US. Announcing the donation last year, Michael Dell said: “We’ve seen what happens when a child gets even a small financial h head start — their world expands.” Now months after this donation, Dell has managed to secure a deal worth $9.7 billion from Pentagon, as reported by CNBC.

The Dell-Pentagon deal

As per the CNBC report, the five-year deal, known as the Department of War Enterprise Software Agreement II Core Enterprise Technology Agreement, will see Dell Federal systems deliver Microsoft 365, advanced cloud subscriptions and on-premises licensing capabilities. Defense Department CIO Kirsten Davies and acting Navy CIO Barry Tanner said Dell won the contract after a competitive process. “The vendors were all evaluated based on competition, comparison to GSA schedule pricing and overall chain of value to the department. Going through the process of evaluation, they came out on top,” Tanner explained.Officials further added that the agreement will consolidate licensing across the Pentagon, intelligence community, and US Coast Guard, saving about $422 million annually. This deal is also part of the efforts to streamline IT budgets as the Pentagon seeks approvals for a $1.5 trillion fiscal 2027 budget.

Michael Dell’s donation to Trump-linked accounts last year has drawn attention in light of the new contract. Referencing to their Trump Accounts donation, the Dell couple said in a previous interview,“It’s certainly the largest gift we will have given,” adding that more philanthropic plans may follow. President Trump has praised Dell publicly, urging Americans to “go out and buy a Dell” at a recent White House event. Dell has reciprocated, congratulating Trump on his 2024 election victory and joining his Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.After making the donation of $6.5 billion to Trump accounts ‘Trump Accounts’ for children last year, Dell CEO Michael Dell also made a donation of $750 million to University of Texas at Austin. The donation will be used to build a new AI-focused medical centre and research campus.
