Google CEO Sundar Pichai has praised outgoing Apple CEO Tim Cook as he announced to step down from the role starting September 1, 2026. Announcing his exit from Apple, Tim Cook shared a post where he wrote: “I want to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and thank you for believing in me to lead the company that has always put you at the center of our work. This is not goodbye. It’s a hello to John and I can’t wait for you to get to know him like I do”. Responding to Tim Cook’s announcement, Sundar Pichai congratulated him on an “incredible run” and praised his dedication to Apple’s mission. “Congrats on an incredible run @tim_cook, always respected your deep commitment to Apple’s mission and best wishes in your new role!,” Sundar Pichai wrote.He also expressed eagerness to work with new Apple CEO John Ternus. “Look forward to working with John as well!,” Sundar Pichai said.

John Ternus named new Apple CEO

Apple shared a press release announcing the appointment of John Ternus, 51-year-old senior vice president of hardware engineering as Apple’s new CEO. In the release, Apple said that Ternus has worked with Apple for 25 years. He joined Apple’s product design team in 2001 and became a vice president of Hardware Engineering in 2013. John Ternus joined the executive team in 2021 as senior vice president of Hardware Engineering. Throughout his tenure at Apple, Ternus has overseen hardware engineering work on a variety of groundbreaking products across every category. He was instrumental in the introduction of multiple new product lines, including iPad and AirPods, as well as many generations of products across iPhone, Mac, and Apple Watch.The iPhone maker also praised Tim Cook’s 15-years legacy as Apple CEO. “Under Cook’s leadership Apple has grown from a market capitalization of approximately $350 billion to $4 trillion, representing a more than 1,000% increase, and yearly revenue has nearly quadrupled, from $108 billion in fiscal year 2011 ⁠to more than $416 billion in fiscal year 2025. … Apple operates over 500 retail stores and has more than doubled the number of countries in which its customers can visit an Apple Store. During his tenure, Apple has grown by more than 100,000 team members and increased its active installed base to more than 2.5 billion devices.”
