Amazon goes the AI way in hiring; its biggest hiring of the year 2026, of thousands of workers, will be done by …

Amazon is reportedly shifting its hiring strategy toward artificial intelligence (AI). According to a Reuters report, the e-commerce giant’s largest recruitment drive of 2026 is expected to rely heavily on AI-led interviews rather than traditional face-to-face interactions. Amazon has introduced a new hiring platform called Connect Talent, designed to automate large-scale recruitment processes, such as seasonal hiring. The company, which typically hires hundreds of thousands of workers during the holiday period, said the system can screen candidates, conduct interviews and generate recruiter notes with minimal human involvement. The announcement was made at an event featuring Matt Garman along with executives from OpenAI, highlighting Amazon’s broader push into AI-led enterprise tools.

How Amazon’s AI hiring system will work

The newly introduced Connect Talent platform will use AI to conduct interviews around the clock. Candidates will interact with AI systems during the screening process, with the software handling evaluation and documentation before passing results to recruiters.AWS senior VP Colleen Aubrey said candidates will be informed when AI is used in the process. She also acknowledged that the system is still evolving.“The experience continues to get better and better each iteration we go through. There’s some art around making that voice interaction natural and human,” Aubrey added.Amazon hired around 250,000 seasonal workers last year, and the new system is expected to play a central role in managing similar hiring volumes going forward.Alongside the hiring tool, Amazon has introduced its internal AI design philosophy called “humorphism.” The company said the approach focuses on building AI systems that adapt to human behaviour rather than requiring users to adjust to technology.“How do we translate the human behaviours of working together into a product? That’s what we’re going after, and hopefully you’ll see that,” Aubrey noted.The concept reflects Amazon’s effort to make AI-driven systems feel more natural in areas such as hiring and enterprise workflows.The hiring software is part of a broader push into autonomous AI systems, often referred to as “agents,” which can plan, decide and execute tasks with limited human input.At the same event, Amazon also introduced another tool called Connect Decisions, aimed at supply chain planning. The software can analyse and compile data to support purchasing and logistics decisions. Aubrey said the tool enables companies to rely on AI for backend analysis while equipping planners with relevant data.Amazon’s move comes as other technology companies, including Google parent Alphabet, OpenAI and Anthropic, continue to expand their AI agent capabilities for enterprise use. At the same time, the growing use of AI in hiring and operations has raised concerns about job displacement and oversight. Amazon has already linked some of the roughly 30,000 corporate job cuts since October to efficiencies gained through AI.Despite these concerns, the company is continuing to expand AI-led systems across multiple areas, including recruitment, logistics and decision-making processes.
