CBSE acknowledges possible marking errors, opens Class XII answer script access from May 19
NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has acknowledged the possibility of errors during the evaluation of Class XII board examination answer sheets, with Controller of Examinations Sanyam Bhardwaj stating that mistakes may occur while assessing nearly 1.25 crore answer scripts annually.Speaking to ANI after the declaration of the CBSE Class XII results, Bhardwaj said students would be allowed to access copies of their evaluated answer scripts from May 19 to May 22 through the board’s official process. The Class XII results, announced earlier this week, recorded an overall pass percentage of 85.20%.
CBSE says students can review evaluated answer sheetsIn the ANI interview, Bhardwaj said the board follows a transparent evaluation process and has mechanisms in place to rectify any discrepancy identified by students.“We evaluate approximately 1.25 crore answer scripts; there is a possibility that an error may occur somewhere,” Bhardwaj said.He added that students would first be able to obtain copies of their evaluated answer scripts and review them carefully before applying for further verification or correction.“The CBSE is an institution that works in the best interest of the students, and we operate with complete transparency,” he said.Re-evaluation applications to begin from May 26According to the CBSE Controller, students identifying discrepancies in their answer sheets may apply for re-evaluation or correction between May 26 and May 29.“If any error is detected, and if our panel of experts confirms that an error indeed exists, that error will be rectified immediately,” Bhardwaj told ANI.He added that corrected marks would be awarded if students became eligible for higher scores after verification.Marks may increase or decrease after verificationCBSE also clarified that marks revised during the verification process may either increase or decrease depending on the findings of the expert panel.“It is imperative to clarify here that if the correction of an error results in a lower score, the student’s marks will be reduced accordingly,” Bhardwaj said during the ANI interview.The board has advised students to review their evaluated answer sheets carefully before applying for re-evaluation or discrepancy correction within the notified timelines.
