Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei just jokingly 'admitted' the problem about the $800 billion company that many analysts have been saying

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has now jokingly acknowledged that his company’s explosive growth may be ‘too hard to handle’. According to a report by Business Insider, speaking at the Code with Claude developer conference in San Francisco along with co-founder Daniela Amodei, he revealed that Anthropic witnessed 80x year-over-year growth in revenue and usage in Q1 2026. Amodei also quipped that he would prefer a ‘mere 10x’ growth, since the current pace has stretched the computing resources of the company far beyond the original plan. Originally, Anthropic had expected anywhere from ‘a little’ growth to 10x, making the actual surge a logistical challenge.

Claude Code the success driver at Anthropic

The company’s Claude Code service has been the main driver of this hyper-growth, quickly becoming favourite among developers. Amodei also noted that software engineers are often the fastest adopters of new tools, which explains why coding has been the initial focus. He also suggested that this is a mere preview of how AI adoption will ripple across the border economy. Anthropic, founded by former OpenAI researchers, had initially lagged behind ChatGPT but surged ahead in late 2025 when Claude Code gained traction. The company is now in a fierce race with rivals to capture developer and enterprise customers, fuelling massive infrastructure demands.

Anthropic expanding infrastructure with SpaceX

In order to meet this increasing demand, AI giant Anthropic announced that it has secured 300 megawatts of new computing power at SpaceX’s Colossus One data center. Product chief Ami Vora said the additional chips will allow developers to run Claude Code for longer each day, easing some of the strain caused by skyrocketing usage. The company will continue pitching its models at another developer event in San Francisco on Thursday, underscoring its aggressive push to scale.Amodei has built a reputation as one of AI’s most outspoken voices, often warning about the risks of rapid adoption. In past interviews, he predicted that “essentially all” code could be written by AI within a year and raised alarms about a potential white-collar bloodbath. His latest comments, though lighthearted, highlight the tension between Anthropic’s runaway success and the operational challenges of sustaining it. With revenue growth far outpacing expectations, the $800 billion company faces the paradox of too much success, too fast.
